A Taiwan medical travel application designed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) that provides information on dozens of medical and health care facilities was unveiled Dec. 7.

Lin Tzou-yien, deputy minister of the Department of Health, which commissioned the project, said the free app would help promote Taiwan’s top-quality health care services to the rest of the world, thereby boosting the country’s medical tourism industry.

According to Lin, the app is available in English as well as traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese versions. Smartphone and tablet computer users who download the app will have access to real-time information on the 31 medical and health care facilities under the department’s international medical program, he explained.

The program introduces the hospitals and their services, from health checkups to cosmetic surgery, with maps and telephone numbers. Information on major tourist attractions around Taiwan is also provided.

Taiwan is the third country in Asia to launch such an app, after South Korea and Singapore, Lin said.

The app is currently available for iPhone and iPad users and will be expanded to other operating systems, including Android, by next year, TAITRA said. (SB)
